Frequently Asked Questions
How do I search for a company?
Use the search bar on the homepage or navigation bar to search by company name or ticker symbol. As you type, matching companies will appear in a dropdown. Click on a company to view its filings.
How do I view SEC filings?
Navigate to a company page and you will see all their SEC filings organized by category. Click on any filing to open it in our document viewer, which displays the original SEC document in a clean, readable format.
What filing types are available?
BamSEC organizes filings into categories including Financials (10-K, 10-Q), Current Reports (8-K), Proxies (DEF 14A), Registration Statements (S-1, S-3), Ownership (Forms 3, 4, 5), and more. You can filter by category on any company page.
How do I use the document viewer?
The document viewer displays SEC filings in their original format. You can scroll through the document, and the filing metadata (company name, filing type, date) is displayed at the top for reference.
What is a SIC code?
A Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) code is a four-digit code assigned by the SEC to categorize a company's primary business activity. BamSEC displays SIC codes on company pages to help you identify the industry a company operates in.
What is a CIK number?
A Central Index Key (CIK) is a unique identifier assigned by the SEC to every entity that files documents. BamSEC uses CIK numbers to look up company filings from the SEC EDGAR database.
Is the data on BamSEC real-time?
BamSEC pulls filing data directly from the SEC EDGAR database. Filings are available as soon as they are published by the SEC. There may be a brief delay between when a filing is submitted and when it appears on our platform.
Can I browse companies by industry?
Yes. The Browse page lets you search through all SEC-registered companies. You can find companies by name or ticker, and each company listing shows its SIC code and industry classification.
